In today’s inbox, my copy of Elliott Massie's Learning Trends e-newsletter (www.massie.com) included a paragraph about an interesting instructional technique: A classroom without chairs. Massie wrote that a senior executive in Washington teaches a class of new managers without any chairs in the room. Evidently, the class is a ninety-minute, face-to-face session in a room with four walls covered with whiteboards and everyone holding markers. Massie commented, "It is a wild and innovative format. I am interested if anyone else has experimented with removing the chairs from their classes." Hummm. I wonder if any of our instructors have tried this? It might be difficult to move some of the chairs and tables out of our classrooms!
